How do I apply for an account?

All applications are made online. Simply click on apply and you are ready to start. You will need to have either your passport or driving licence to hand to enable us to check your identity. If you don't have these, don't worry, we will tell you what other documentation is acceptable. You will also need the sort code and account number of your personal UK bank or building society account.

Do I need to provide you with my National Insurance Number?

No, only when claiming gross interest as a non tax payer.

Why do you need a Direct Debit Instruction from me?

A Direct Debit Instruction enables you to transfer money to and from your FirstSave account.

What is a nominated account?

A nominated account is an account that we link to your Firstsave account so that you can transfer money between accounts whenever you like.

Do I get a chequebook or a debit card with my FirstSave account?

No. FirstSave Easy Access online savings account is an internet based account only. Easy access to your money is by transfer from your FirstSave account into your nominated account.

How do I log in?

To log in simply visit www.FirstSave.co.uk and click on 'log in'. Please make sure you have your User ID, password and memorable data to hand.

Forgotten my password – What do I do?

For security reasons we can not respond to an email request, so please call us on 0845 601 2211.

Are there any charges for operating my account?

There are no charges for the normal operation of your account. However, for some tasks we may undertake for you, which do not fall within the normal scope of operating an account, we may make a charge (see our Tariff of charges).

How do I withdraw money from my Easy Access account?

To withdraw money from your account, simply visit our website (please make sure you have your User ID, password and memorable data to hand). There is no limit to the number of withdrawals you can make.

We will usually send the money to you by BACS to your nominated personal UK bank account. This usually takes 4 working days (or, if you tell us by 11am the transfer will happen in 3 working days).

If you need the money urgently, we can send it to your account by CHAPS electronic transfer (if you tell us by midday the transfer will happen on that day) but a fee will be charged for this service (see our Tariff of charges).

Will you send me a statement?

We will send you a statement once a year at the end of each tax year.

How can I make changes to my account?

Name or address

If you change your address, please inform us as soon as possible in writing. To do so, visit www.FirstSave.co.uk log in to your account and visit the change of details page.

On this page you will find various forms in order for you to inform us of any changes. Simply complete the form and return to us, signed and dated. (Please note that changes made to joint accounts must be signed and authorised by all account holders).

Income tax

If your circumstances change and your tax status is affected, then please let us know as soon as possible by phoning our friendly Customer Services team on 0845 601 2211. We ask you to let us know as soon as possible so that your tax position will not be unnecessarily affected.

Account details

If you wish to change the account used for transactions made to and from your savings with FirstSave, simply log into your account and visit the change of details page, here you will find a Direct Debit Instruction mandate. You will need to complete and return the mandate to us as soon as possible, as the change can take up to 8 working days to become effective.

How do I make my initial deposit?

By direct debit from your nominated account

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide details of your personal UK bank account. Provided we can open your account immediately, you will have the opportunity to set up an initial transfer by Direct Debit as part of your application. The earliest date the transfer can take place is 8 days following your application to allow time for the Direct Debit to be authorised.

Easy Access Account
If we ask you to provide further information i.e identification, once we have told you your account is open, you will be able to make the transfer by logging into your account, selecting 'make a transaction' and following the onscreen instructions.

Fixed Rate Bond
If we ask you to provide further information i.e. identification, your account can only be funded via the cheque, BACS or CHAPS method.

By BACS or CHAPS

Please contact your bank or Building Society and use the following details to make the transfer;

Beneficiary: FBN Bank Ltd/FirstSave

You will also need to correctly quote your reference or account number and surname when making the transfer as any error could result in a delay in allocating the money to your account or returning the funds to your bank.

You may be changed a fee for this service or monetary limits may apply - please check with your bank.

What if my bank details haven't been accepted?

You will need to complete a Direct Debit Mandate and send it to us as soon as possible using our freepost address, to register your nominated bank account. Authorisation of your Direct Debit Mandate may take up to 8 days. We will send you a Mandate in your Welcome Pack once your account is opened. Alternatively, you may send your initial deposit via one of the methods detailed above. You will still need to set up a nominated bank account to allow further transfers in and out of your FirstSave account.
